Dear Future is a lightweight, student‑led mentorship experience that sits between an informational interview and a traditional mentoring relationship. Instead of calls or recurring meetings, mentees connect with working professionals through a series of intentional emails and messages, guided by prompts that help them practice taking the lead

Support over Dictation

The program is inspired by servant‑leadership models: professionals are there to support, not direct. Mentees drive the dialogue, set their own learning goals, and learn how to communicate with clarity, respect, and initiative.

Micro‑mentorship

  • Over 6 weeks, mentees send a series of guided messages (introductions, questions, reflections, and follow‑ups).

  • Mentors respond when it works for them, offering context, perspective, and practical insight in direct, thoughtful replies.

Reflection and next steps

  • Mentees leave with a record of their outreach, feedback, and improved communication habits they can carry into internships, jobs, and future networking.

  • There is no set time commitment. Each week, you will send/respond to 1 email. This can take as little as 10 minutes or as much as an hour.

    Students benefit more when they prepare by setting goals and asking thoughtful questions that go beyond the classroom. (see mentee resources page for more)

  • We're beta testing this program—no fees or pricing yet.

    To sustain basic infrastructure, we're exploring a sponsorship model with optional small pledges from supporters.

  • No, but participants are encouraged to use email to share or schedule any additional forms of communication.

  • Pairs are hand-matched based on interests and career focus.

  • The Intern Mentor program maintains strict privacy and professional standards for all communications.

    Mentors are accepted on a referral basis and selected based on aligning with The Intern Mentor’s core values.

    No mentorship communication is saved and is shared with The Intern Mentor only under the participant’s discretion.
